Poetree Update

Today’s post comes from Delphine Douglas, class of 2018 and Art Center Multimedia Student Assistant.

Barbara Beisinghoff, a German graphic artist, recently completed her residency at Vassar College. From September 29-October 16, Beisinghoff worked with the Creative Arts Across Disciplines (CAAD) on a series of programming related to her practice as an artist, and the CAAD’s theme for the 2016-2017 year, “touch.” This programming included an exhibition in the project gallery titled When Light Touches Paper, a premiere screening of a documentary about Beisinghoff’s work by Eval Wal, and a gallery talk at the Art Center. During her time at the college, Beisinghoff also made two installations called Poetree consisting of lines from Paul Celan’s poetry applied to the bark of a tree using paper pulp and silk screens. You can read more about this process on the CAAD blog.

In this post, I wrote that I would update the blog weekly with photos of the Poetree in the Art Center Sculpture Garden as the pulp faded to document its natural transformation. However, over the past few weeks the changes have been so subtle that it seemed unnecessary and even silly to post updates. Instead of every week, I’ll add photos every couple of weeks or so to show the changes, or lack of changes.
