On January 5, 1900 the surrealist artist Yves Tanguy was born in Paris. Tanguy, who was married to fellow artist Kay Sage, once said of his process:
“The [work] develops before my eyes, unfolding its surprises as it progresses. It is this which gives me the sense of the complete liberty, and for this reason I am incapable of forming a plan or making a sketch beforehand.”
